Chasejamison (CJ) Akilah Manar-Spears is an imaginative Bay Area writer, yoga instructor, and educator crafting ancestrally informed stories where ecology, emotion, and speculative fiction blend. Inspired by Afro-futurisms and nature, CJ writes to build mental refuges from dystopian realities.They authored the poetry collection Becoming Friends With Trees & Other Creative Prophecies and have been featured in anthologies like East Oakland To East Africa. Currently, CJ is exploring indigenous-centered futures in their sci-fi series, The Uncloneable Trinity. Their debut fiction novel, The Book of Cadence, arrives in 2027 via Bootstrap Publications.Motivated by Octavia Butler and Black women creators, CJ centers their work on metaphysical magic and dying empires. Outside of writing, they teach yoga and creative writing to elementary, middle, and high school students.
